Musculoskeletal surgery does not end when the stitches come out. The operation repairs a structure; trusting your knee, your shoulder or your spine again is what rehabilitation gives back. All six members of the Újbuda team work with patients after surgery.

There is work to do before the operation too

Forsthoffer Réka also names preparation before surgery among the fields on their profile. The aim is to arrive at the operation as strong and as mobile as you can be, and to learn in advance the exercises you will need afterwards.

What happens at the first appointment?

Rehabilitation also starts with a first assessment. Bring:

  • the discharge summary and the surgical report;
  • the surgeon’s instructions on how much load is allowed;
  • the dates of your follow-up examinations.

The physiotherapist plans within these limits and does not overrule the doctor’s instructions.

How is the process built up?

According to the clinic’s booking page, rehabilitation physiotherapy supports recovery after an operation, and the clinic’s equipment allows everything from joint rehabilitation exercises to sport-specific training. The order follows the MozgásPiramis:

  1. treating the pain and the current complaint;
  2. regaining range of motion;
  3. building muscle strength;
  4. stability and movement control;
  5. returning to work or to sport.

Hands-on treatment (manual therapy) typically has its role in the early phases; at the end, active work dominates.

Who works with what?

According to the profiles, Mizsei Zsófia highlights complaints after knee injuries, and Mészáros Myrtill highlights rehabilitation after musculoskeletal operations. You can meet the whole group on the team page.

How long does it take?

That depends on the type of operation, on the medical protocol and on you; nobody can promise it in advance. What is in your hands: doing the home exercises regularly.

If the goal is sport

If you play sport, competitively or as a hobby, the last phase of rehabilitation is built on the movements of your discipline. The article on sport-specific physiotherapy explains how.
